Ana Paula Vieira Colombo

She holds a degree in Dentistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1990), a specialization in Periodontics from UFRJ (1991), a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences in Oral Biology from Harvard School of Dental Medicine (1997), a Research Fellowship in Oral Microbiology at The Forsyth Institute, Boston, MA, USA (1997), and a postdoctoral fellowship (2008) in the Department of Molecular Genetics at Forsyth. She conducted a scientific mission as a visiting researcher in the Department of Microbiology at The Forsyth Institute (2019-2020).

She was the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Science (Microbiology) from 2009 to 2011, Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology (2017-2019), and Associate Director of IMPPG/UFRJ (2014-2019). She has led the Oral Microbiology Laboratory since 2002. She is a Full Professor (2018), a Scientist of Our State/FAPERJ since 2009, and a CNPq PQ Level 2 Researcher. She is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Programs in Science (Microbiology CAPES 7) and in Dentistry (Periodontics CAPES 5) at UFRJ. She is currently the vice-coordinator of the Periodontics area of the Graduate Program in Dentistry. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee in the field of Biological Sciences and is a member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Commission (CEDI) at FAPERJ.

Her expertise includes Dentistry and Medical Microbiology, with a focus on the following areas: the etiology, immune response, and therapy of oral infections; prevention and control of oral biofilms; the oral microbiome and its relationship with other microbiomes in the human body; detection of multidrug-resistant species in the oral cavity; checkerboard; HOMIM, and study of uncultivable oral species.
