Iranaia Assunção Miranda

She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Virology at IMPPG and the coordinator of the Laboratory of Cellular Response to Viral Infections (LaRIV). Her research group has been dedicated over the years mainly to investigating the mechanisms of tissue damage and mediators associated with the progression of infections by different arboviruses, such as Zika, Chikungunya, Mayaro, and Dengue, and more recently, SARS-CoV-2. To this end, she has focused on characterizing experimental in vitro and in vivo models to understand the molecular aspects of virus-cell interactions in the target tissues of infection, as well as studying viral pathogenesis, molecules involved in the damage process, and testing the therapeutic activity of new compounds with potential antiviral activity, or even those already clinically approved for other diseases.
