Juliana Reis Cortines

She holds a degree in Biomedicine (Uni-Rio, 2000), a Master’s and PhD in Biological Chemistry (2002; 2006) from the Institute of Biomedical Chemistry (IBqM-UFRJ). She completed postdoctoral research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Connecticut (USA), and the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics (UFRJ). She is currently an Associate Professor at IMPG-UFRJ and a Research Assistant Professor/Fulbright Alumni at UConn. Her research focuses on the holistic study of giant viruses and the use of viral proteins for the production of nanoparticles for drug delivery to the central nervous system. She has experience in the areas of biochemistry and virology, with an emphasis on macromolecule chemistry, mass spectrometry, viral proteins, in vitro transcription and translation, and spectroscopic techniques.
