He holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1995), a Master’s in Science (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000), a PhD in Science (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2004), and a Postdoctoral fellowship at the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of São Paulo. He is currently an Associate Professor at UFRJ. He has experience in the field of Biochemistry, with an emphasis on Glycobiology, mainly focusing on the following topics: (i) biological activity of extracellular vesicles produced by fungi, (ii) glucosylceramides of pathogenic fungi, (iii) involvement of glycosphingolipids and lipid domains in the adhesion and endocytosis of fungi by host cells, and (iv) new therapeutic strategies for the prevention and treatment of fungal infections.
