Marta Helena Branquinha de Sá

She completed her Pharmacy degree (1990) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), followed by a Master’s (1994) and PhD (2000) in Sciences (Microbiology) at UFRJ. She is currently a Full Professor in the Department of General Microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology Paulo de Góes (IMPG) at UFRJ, where she coordinates the Laboratory of Advanced Studies of Emerging and Resistant Microorganisms. She is also a permanent member of the Graduate Program in Sciences (Microbiology) at UFRJ.

She has expertise in Microbiology, with an emphasis on Parasitology, and the Biology and Physiology of Microorganisms. Her research primarily focuses on the following themes: the effects of proteolytic inhibitors on the cellular biology and virulence of pathogenic microorganisms, and the repositioning of compounds for the treatment of infections.
