Biologist with a Master’s and Ph.D. in Science (Microbiology), completed in 1991 at the Paulo de Góes Institute of Microbiology – UFRJ. In 2006, she conducted a postdoctoral research on semi-solid fermentation at EMBRAPA – Agroindustry of Food. She is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she coordinates the BIONOVAR Biotechnology Network Laboratory – Unit of Biocatalysis, Bioproducts, and Bioenergy. Her research focuses on enzymes and other microbial bioproducts for the industrial sector and the development of new chemotherapeutic agents for neglected diseases. She is involved in scientific outreach and the development of educational materials for children. She also works on strengthening innovation within UFRJ and in University-private sector partnerships, with experience in projects with Shell and Petrobras. She served as Director of the Paulo de Góes Institute of Microbiology at UFRJ from 2014 to 2019.
