Alessandra D’Almeida Filardy

Alessandra holds a degree in Biological Sciences (Bachelor’s in Microbiology and Immunology; 2003) and a Master’s in Microbiology (Clinical Bacteriology; 2005) from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. She earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (IBCCF; 2010) from UFRJ. She completed postdoctoral research in Cellular Immunology at IBCCF, UFRJ (2010-2012) and in Mucosal Immunology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (2012-2015), Bethesda, USA. She is an Assistant Professor (Department of Immunology) at the Paulo de Góes Institute of Microbiology (IMPG), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a permanent advisor for the Graduate Program in Microbiology (CAPES 7) and the Graduate Program in Immunology and Inflammation (CAPES 6), a level 2 productivity fellow at CNPq, and a Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ). She is currently the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Microbiology at UFRJ (CAPES 7) and leads the Cellular Immunology Laboratory (IMPG/UFRJ), where she develops projects aimed at understanding how the phagocytosis of apoptotic cells regulates the immune system in the pulmonary and intestinal mucosae during homeostasis and in inflammatory and infectious conditions. She is a member of the board of the Brazilian Society of Immunology (2024-2025) and received the international Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science 2021.
