Alexandre Soares Rosado

He holds a Bachelor’s and Teaching degree in Biological Sciences, a Master’s degree in Sciences (Microbiology), and a Ph.D. in Sciences (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Wageningen University and Research (WUR), Wageningen, Netherlands. He is currently an Associate Researcher at AquaRio, a Scientist of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Faperj), and the coordinator of the Laboratory of Microbial Molecular Ecology (LEMM-UFRJ). He has been a member of CTNBIO (sub-area Environment and sub-area Plant) and technical groups of the Ministry of the Environment, Embrapa, SBM, and MCTI. He is a permanent member of the Graduate Programs in Sciences (Microbiology) and in Plant Biotechnology and Bioprocesses, and a collaborating member of graduate programs at Coppe, UERJ, and IB-UFRJ. He has trained highly qualified human resources, who are employed and working as faculty members/researchers at scientific institutions in Brazil and abroad. He has international collaborations and participates as a project evaluator for the following countries: Canada, USA, England, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Uruguay, Kenya, India, South Africa, Colombia, Australia, and New Zealand. He has experience in the field of Microbiology, with an emphasis on Microbial Ecology, working mainly on the following topics: Soil Microbiology and extreme environments, Environmental microbiomes, Biotechnology, and bioremediation of oil and derivatives.

  • Associate Researcher at AquaRio;
  • Scientist of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ);
  • Associate Editor of the scientific journals: Journal of Microbiological Methods, BMC Microbiology, and Frontiers in Microbiology;
  • Vice-President of the Brazilian Society of Microbiology – SBM (2009-2013);
  • Founder of ECOCYCLE (Biotechnology and Environmental Startup/BioRio) and the Biotechnology Cluster BIOINOVAR at UFRJ;
  • Founder and coordinator of the Laboratory of Microbial Molecular Ecology (LEMM-UFRJ).
