Ana Maria Mazotto de Almeida

She holds a degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2006), as well as a Master’s and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) from the same institution. She completed her postdoctoral research in biocatalysis at the UFRJ Institute of Microbiology and Fundação Oswaldo Cruz.

Currently, she is a professor and researcher at the UFRJ Institute of Microbiology. She has expertise in Microbiology, with an emphasis on Applied Microbiology, particularly in the following areas: enzyme production (hydrolases and oxidoreductases) focusing on microbial biocatalysts, especially from the genus Bacillus, biochemistry, purification and characterization of peptidases, enzymatic biotechnology, and fermentation processes. Her main research areas include: the production, characterization, and improvement of key enzymes in the conversion process of agricultural industry waste into value-added products; biotransformation of pollutants, especially dyes, using microorganisms that produce specific oxidoreductases; and the production of sustainable, biotechnology-based materials.
