He holds a degree in Biological Sciences: Microbiology and Immunology (2009) and a Ph.D. (2014) in Science (Microbiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He completed part of his doctoral research (2013-2014) in Dr. Jesus Valenzuela’s laboratory at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. He conducted postdoctoral research (2014-2018) at the NIH, funded by Ciência sem Fronteiras and NIH fellowships. He was a fellow of the National Postdoctoral Program (PNPD/CAPES – 2018).
Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology at the Paulo de Góes Institute of Microbiology (UFRJ) and serves as a collaborator faculty member in the Graduate Program in Immunology and Inflammation (UFRJ). He has experience in Immunology, with an emphasis on innate immunity and immunoparasitology. His research primarily focuses on the interaction between neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and the parasite Leishmania; the effect of the saliva of the insect vector on the modulation of innate immune cell responses during Leishmania infection; neutrophil chemotaxis; and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). He is a JCNE-FAPERJ fellow (2022).
