He holds a Ph.D. from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with a period at Michigan State University (MSU). He is one of the coordinators of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Microbial Ecology – LABEM. His research lines focus on aspects of environmental microbiology, particularly soil and plant microbiology, nutrient cycling, greenhouse gases, and the development of microbial inoculants to promote plant growth. He is one of the country’s leading experts in the use of next-generation sequencing technologies and bioinformatics analysis applied to studies in this field.
Professor Rachid is currently (as of 2021) a Young Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ) and Coordinator of the Soil Microbiology Area with the Brazilian Society of Microbiology.
