Eliane de Oliveira Ferreira

She holds a degree in Biology (Bachelor’s in Genetics and Full Licentiate) from the Institute of Biology at UFRJ, with a Master’s in Microbiology, specializing in Bacteriology from UERJ, and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Microbiology Paulo de Góes – UFRJ. She completed a Sandwich Ph.D. at Liverpool University, UK, and a Postdoctoral fellowship at East Carolina University, USA. She also has a specialization in mass spectrometry from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Her research focuses on epidemiological studies, virulence factors, genomics, and proteomics of anaerobic bacteria, particularly Clostridioides difficile, the causative agent of pseudomembranous colitis, and Cutibacterium acnes, the agent responsible for human acne and involved in infections in orthopedic prostheses.
