Fernanda de Avila Abreu

Graduated in Biological Sciences (Microbiology and Immunology) from UFRJ (2004), with a Master’s (2006) and PhD (2010) in Science (Microbiology) from UFRJ. She has experience in the field of Microbiology, with an emphasis on Environmental Microbiology, focusing on the ultrastructure and cell biology of bacteria, as well as the cultivation of magnetotactic bacteria. Her work also includes Biotechnology, aimed at the sustainable production of magnetic nanoparticles of biological origin and their applications in health, wastewater treatment, and bioremediation. She is currently the coordinator of the Cell Biology and Magnetotaxis Laboratory and the Multi-User Microscopy Unit at IMPG. Additionally, she has served as the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Plant Biotechnology and Bioprocesses and as the representative of adjunct professors on the CCS Council since 2017.
