Lúcia Martins Teixeira

Full Professor. He mainly works on the following topics: Diagnosis and Characterization of Bacterial Pathogens; Bacterial Resistance to Antimicrobials; Detection, Identification, and Molecular Characterization of Bacterial Pathogens; Taxonomy, Characterization, and Molecular Epidemiology of Bacteria, with an emphasis on Gram-positive Cocci, especially StreptococcusEnterococcus, and related genera. The importance of his research can be observed through publications in internationally recognized journals with significant impact in the field, and his participation in several book chapters, some of which are considered world reference works. He collaborates with various national and international researchers and institutions, especially with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, USA). He maintains continuous activities in mentoring, training, and enhancing human resources, as well as participating in committees, examination boards, and organizing national and international courses and events. He served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology, UFRJ, for several terms. He was a member of the board of the Brazilian Society for Microbiology, serving as Secretary-General (1989-1991) and Vice-President (1991-1993). He was a member of the Advisory Committee of CNPq (CA-MP; 2006-2009), the scientific committees of the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), and the Microbe event of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), as well as of the GARDP/DNDi/WHO [Global Antimicrobial Research and Development (GARD) Partnership/Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative/World Health Organization].
