She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Genetics and a PhD in Infectious and Parasitic Diseases. She worked as a visiting researcher at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the USA. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (USA). Since her Master’s, she has conducted research related to various aspects of retrovirus replication. Her research focuses on: characterization of viral replication mechanisms and the different aspects of pathogen-host cell interactions in HIV, Chikungunya virus, and SARS-CoV-2; the study of new classes of antivirals against arboviruses, HIV, and HIV/TB co-infection; repurposing drugs against emerging and re-emerging pathogens, including Chikungunya virus and SARS-CoV-2; and understanding the persistence mechanisms related to infection by Chikungunya virus and SARS-CoV-2.
