Renata Cristina Picão

She holds a degree in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the State University of Londrina, a postgraduate degree in Hospital Infection from the same university, and completed her Master’s and PhD in the Postgraduate Program in Sciences (Infectiology) at the Federal University of São Paulo. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology Paulo de Góes – UFRJ. Her research focuses on the spread of Antimicrobial Resistance between environmental and human sources. The ongoing projects aim to understand the magnitude and consequences of environmental resistance spread, the structures related to the horizontal dissemination of resistance genes (especially those encoding carbapenemases), and their impact on bacterial fitness.
