She completed her degree in Microbiology and Immunology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000), a Master’s in Sciences (Microbiology) at the same university (2002), a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Iowa (United States – 2007), and postdoctoral research at the University of British Columbia (Canada – 2012). She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology Paulo de Góes. She has expertise in Bacteriology with an emphasis on Medical Microbiology, and her research projects focus on the following topics: human skin and intestinal microbiota, discovery of new antimicrobial and antivirulence agents, bacterial pathogenesis and resistance, and microorganism interactions in biofilms.
